The Austrian Society for Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Ambulante
Kardiale Rehabiliation - AGAKAR)
was among the first of the European cardiac rehabiliation societies to decide to monitor
health outcomes including health-related quality of life (HRQL) on a routine clinical
basis. All cardiac patients attending a modular outpatient cardiac rehabilitation
program throughout Austria are being assessed and monitored. Several hundred patients
have so far completed the MacNew heart disease HRQL questionnaire using the
web-based MacNew.
It helps the AGAKAR to constantly monitor the quality of their outpatient rehabilitation services, providing
state of the arte services including and valueing the patients persepctive. In addition the
individual data provides valueable feedback for the clinician about the current status of his patients disease from
the patients persepctive.
The Austrian PVA health insurancy company (PVA) is the social insurance company which runs most of the cardiac inpatient clinics in Austria. With over 750 new patients every month (approx. 10 000 cardiac patients per year) the PVA has the need to evaluate and monitor the quality of care in its clinics. The MacNew heart disease HRQL questionnaire is being used to monitor and assess the patients' HRQL on an annual basis.
