The Association of Austrian Psychologists awarded Dr. Höfer the "Psychology Prize 2008 for innovative scientific work in clinical practice".

Dr. Höfer believes that subjective wellbeing (especially health-related quality of life) is an as important outcome factor as other clinical parameters are to demonstrate the success of any clinical intervention. To give patients an unique voice in the clinical routine it is necessary to have standardized, reliable and valid instruments such as the MacNew Heart Disease health-related quality of life availabe.

Dr. Höfer's scientific work demonstrated the validity and reliability of the German MacNew in myocardial infarction, angina, heart failure and arrhythmia. Therefore, for the first time one standarized instrument can be used accross different diagnoses of heart disease and different coronary interventions. Dr. Höfer could demonstrate the effectiveness of coronary interventions or cardiac rehabilitation programmes from a patients perspective, and the factors contributing to a successfull improvement in health-related quality of life.
