MacNew reference values

MacNew reference values help researchers and clinicians interpret patient-reported health-related quality-of-life scores in a meaningful clinical context. By providing country-specific data across age groups, gender, and cardiac diagnoses, these reference values make it possible to compare individual or study-group scores with relevant patient populations. They support the use of the MacNew in person-centred cardiovascular care, outcome evaluation, research, and international comparisons.

The key to interpreting patient-reported health-related quality of life scores for use in person-centred healthcare approaches in clinical practice is having reference data to place the scores in the context of a meaningful reference group.
Norms for the MacNew, generated on 1,506 English-speaking Australian patients with IHD, have been available since 2002. Based on an international sample of 6,130 adult patients with angina, or myocardial infarction or heart failure living in 22 countries, updated MacNew reference data have been provided.
